Marlena In The Cool Satin Sashes, Spread Dreams Over The Battle Below
This may seem really paranoid, delusional, and to be a bit ego postering...but I am siriusly considering going FO. I have thought about it before, but all this recent fervor over all this bahleetion bullshit, has forced me to really think about it. This whole deal has the potential to become a glorified witch hunt.

So far this has mainly affected the HP fandom. But I can see it snowballing into personal LJs, people crying wolf, etc. Getting a community deleted only because you have an interest listed that someone complains about...Ummm....QUOI LE FUCK!?!?! What's to stop someone who doesn't like you seeing a possibly contraversial interest, and reporting it simply because of a grudge.

Again, it may seem a little crazy. But this whole situation is crazy! And sadly a scenario like that is entirely possible. I was a big FF.net visitor back in high school, and I remember when they banned NC-17 fics and sometimes even people who posted them. So while I highly doubt there is someone out there just to get me personally, I don't think I can be too careful.

liz_marcs has basically said everything I am feeling in posts here, here, here and here. All unlocked, and e-mails to and from someone representing Warriors for Innocence.

I do enjoy some squicky fics. I mean really squicky. But reading about an underage girl being seduced by an older man or other dubious situations, does not equate with me going into a chat room cruising for underage tail.

Yeah, it's hard. Those five year olds are just so damn sexy! */sarcasm*

Not all art or fanwork maybe tasteful, or even good. But how dare anyone think they have the right to squash people's creative outlet! A lot of artists' works which did not involve anything questionable were lost, because of simple mass deletion. Plus, a lot of people who write about that kind of stuff were victims themselves I've heard. Well excuse them for finding a way to deal with their issues that could potentially help readers who are victims as well deal too.

To me, this seems to be an even more heinous example of a FanLib situation. A group who has no idea of how a certain subculture thinks and operates and attempts to infiltrate that subculture. While FanLib is more exploitave, it is easy to avoid. Just don't join their site. But WFI is using a mask of righteousness to carry out their own ends. Do these assholes think we will just bend over and take it? Do they think stupid enough to think that they know better?

Are we supposed to go back to banning books in schools too? It all makes me want to walk around in a dress made of Judy Blume book covers in protest.

I know everyone and their mother has blogged about this. But I really hope there is a call to arms and we stand against this kind of tyranny. I hate when people who have no idea what is going on, tries to horn in and take over. You fuckers don't know me or anyone else! Go piss up a rope!

I can't even get around to discussing the season finale of House! That's how Ms. Ranty McNeverShutsUp I am! But I did have fun with John. I was able to find his apartment with minimal turn arounds. I think next time I will get there perfectly. I love gossiping with him. Plus his place is REEEALLY nice. Especially when you consider the fact that he lives in Lynwood.

Sorry to clog your f-lists with my tl;dr wank. I wanted to post some macros that express my outrage, but I held back.

it's just stupid. yeah, ok, we read and/or write it. that doesn't mean we want it to happen. it just makes for some incredibly gripping plots.

Exactly! I guess their parents never taught them the concept of "make believe".
misunderstood_b on May 30th, 2007 09:02 pm (UTC)
lol. clearly.

they're just doing more harm than good. it wouldn;t be half as bad as they got themselve's an lj, JOINED the communities and spoke to the members or maintainers, before they got then deleted.

I concur! I hate how they come into a place they THINK they understand, and fuck it all up. And since a lot of it was mass deletion, a lot of innocent fics (not that the other stories weren't innocent, but you know what I mean) were lost as well.

I have a huge list of banned and challenged books - if you want that list to assist you in this fight, just let me know.

Yeah definitely! I mean, I don't know all the plans, I am not in on the orchestration at all. But just reading the posts I linked, those people seem to have some pretty good ideas.

Is there any kind of copyright infringement with this? If so, then I see a problem. If not, then...

Re: from susan
Well, things have settled a bit. They've reissued all the fandom journals and "apologized". But I think we are all going to be a lot more cautious and less trusting.
